Projects

The projects I work on are most often very long term. The schedules on these projects range from a few months to a few years. Unfortunately, I cannot post a great deal of footage from many of the projects I have worked on. If you are ever in the area of any of these, please visit to get the full experience! If you would like to see the footage I was able to pull from each project, please visit the work page of the website.

Lumeto Involve XR

I am the Lead Tech Artist at Lumeto, and I am responsible for the entire art production pipeline and ensuring that assets not only meet visual fidelity requirements, but also performance requirements. In addition to that, the assets all need to work with the code required by the product, so rapid prototyping as well as blueprint polishing is included in this kind of work. Getting to interface with the medical community as well as some of the most talented developers I have had the pleasure of meeting has been an amazing experience. This product helps train medical professionals various customizable scenarios currently taught in medical curriculums across the country.

Widow's Tech Destruction Demo

Marvel’s Avengers

I played the role of gameplay capture artist to showcase pc visual capabilities using in-house developer tools. These visuals are now being utilized in national advertising campaigns for Intel, Verizon and Virgin. Collaborated with the creative team at Square Enix to get approvals from multiple clients from advertising campaign. Helped coordinate multiple shipments of high end hardware to ensure that the best possible computer tech on the market was being used to demo Intel features used in game.

Lego Hidden

I served primarily as the Technical Director on this production. Episodes were rendered using Red Shift with one episode rendered using Unreal as a proof of concept that Unreal can output high quality footage.  Through this process, I proved Unreal footage is comparable to Redshift output and able to match the toon shaded visual style. The proof of concept was a success, and game engines are now used extensively in-house to render high quality output. I supervised the assets through rigging and kept effects on track in addition to the Unreal test.

Hershey Cupfusion

I was the Technical Director on this production, and handled implementing a great deal of the visual gags in the game. This is an interactive dark ride running in Unreal at Hershey’s them park in Pennsylvania. I supervised all rigging and animation implementation in Unreal. I created all of the effects used and handled all final lighting in the media. I did all sound mixing on site. I was the primary lead in project installation and interfaced with the client to ensure that the quality bar was not only met, but exceeded.

 Battle For Metropolis

This project is a 4D dark ride that is continuously installed at Six Flags theme parks all around America. Primarily installed in US parks, this attraction is frequently updating, improving the look and adding new features. Recently installed in Mexico, the ride is starting to be enjoyed internationally. Running in Unreal, guests are able to travel from screen to screen in their ride vehicles, and shoot at enemies around Metropolis. I worked on many different aspects of this show, in every iteration. This was my first and is my longest running project at PI. It is with this project that I became very familiar with how to interact with clients. I learned a great deal getting to interface with Six Flags and DC comics. The latest installation was at Magic Mountain, CA where I was able to handle most of the management of the production team. I am proud to say that this ride was awarded “best new product” on the show floor at the IAPPA exhibition January 2016

These projects started installing in 2014, and are still installing in different locations today.

National Geographic Ultimate Explorer

Pure Imagination created the entirety of the media used in this learning center based theme park. We opened two locations, one in Shenyang, China. And one in the city of Metepec in Mexico. I was in charge of supervising and creating the footage used in three of the attractions. The majority of my hands on experience with this was shading the assets in Unreal, lighting, layout, effects and rendering. 360 rendering still takes some creative approaches when using a real time engine, which was the major challenge here. Another attraction involved a life size super wide screen projection, where kids could race different animals which are animated are their real life speeds. The third takes you deep under the ocean, with different media embedded in the practical set to make you feel like you are really looking out of a submarine.

This project delivered in June of 2018, and continues to get updates.

Lego Discovery Center Philadelphia: The Imagination Express

Pure Imagination frequently works with Lego to create online content as well as 4D attractions for their discovery centers, like this one. Not as many resources were available for this project, so I handled all of the animation and Unreal shading and lighting. The content for this attraction was rendered out of Unreal, however the interactive element was done using an engine called Salto created by Alterface.

Arkham Asylum VR Coaster

Arkham Asylum VR is an attraction where you put on a Samsung Gear headset and ride a roller coaster with it on. This ride opened in Oxenford Australia in Movie World, and continues to operate today. The media has been built to match the existing roller coaster layout, so no nausea is induced by wearing the headset. It greatly improves the experience, and it incredibly immersive. I learned a great deal about VR in this project, as I handled the entirety of the layout, all of the 3D environment and coordinating the rest of the production team. We were able to re-purpose rock steady assets, but they still needed some work to be able to be used in our pipeline. This project was rendered and installed using Unity. By the time we created this project in partner ship with VR Coaster, we were fully familiar with getting content approved by DC Comics.

Only a couple months after this project delivered, we created a variation of this ride that was laid out around another coaster in Parque Warner, Madrid. This one was titled Batman Arkham Asylum, and featured Mr. Freeze in addition to Killer Croc, Joker and Poison Ivy.

Bivi Box

Bivi Box is a company that creates highly durable, high quality trailers. These trailers utilize every square inch of space to be able to give all sorts of amenities to customers. I supply Bivi Box with all creative and 3D needs. Whether that is mocking up a proxy model to test out how shelving pieces will fit together, or creating a new logo, I help however I can. This is an ongoing project that requires exact precision in regard to measurements and design so that no time is wasted working out the kinks of how the trailer will operate. These 3D models are also specific in regard to materials, so an exact scope and budget can be figured for the construction of the physical prototype. They are also used as tutorials and blueprints, to distribute to workers building it.

This company is based out of Colorado Springs, and is owned and operated by Charles Rogers and Tyler Cole.

Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena

I played a large role in the project when Pure Imagination created an interactive dark ride for Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina. The schedule for the project was immensely short, around 3 months. However we were able to re-purpose the frostbite assets from their game and convert them into usable Unreal assets. They still needed to be shaded, and the environments still needed to be lit in Unreal. We created any extra animations we needed for our project, and handled all of the gameplay design and implementation at the park. This was my first time really digging into using Cascade in Unreal for the effects, and it was a pleasure to get to work on this project.

Batman Dark Flight

For this 4D flight simulation dark ride we partnered with Platige Studios, who did an amazing job re-purposing game assets to be rendered in Arnold. My contribution to this project was creating the graphics used in the preshow. Though some were After Effects animations, most were 3D animations. I had to animate, light and render the characters in a moving pose installation. The idea is that they were wanted posters in the hallway before the attraction, that moved occasionally to different poses. I learned a great deal specifically with lighting and rendering in Arnold. I also got a large amount of experience utilizing an in-house render farm with Smedge.
